I think that is how I would go about it, if I really had to use the two at the same time rather than just work in a DAW host that had full ReWire support.Įssentially bypass the whole ReWire thing and make your own links with hardware. Each has it's own dedicated sound card that way and when you're done working in Reason you just record the audio tracks into SAW. Not being very well Reasoned (sorry, Pun fully intended!) myself, I might well not know what I'm talking about here.īut it seems if one was to just shove an inexpensive sound card with a digital connection on it into your SAW system, then Reason could use that as it's sound card and you could lock together whatever you needed to MIDI wise with a virtual MIDI cable and then just let the two apps work separately but at the same time on the same machine. Oh, well.can't have ev'rything all the time. Unfortunately, my keyboard does not transmit in OMNI mode, so I can't play 'em all at once. UPDATE: Yep, this works.each instrument on its own MIDI channel. Hopefully my keyboard can transmit in OMNI mode.then I should be able to hear all of the instruments I've loaded in Reason simultaneously. So it stands to reason (nope, no pun intended) that if I increment the source MIDI channel, I should hear the next instrument in my list.

I only hear two.the one I'm triggering through MIDI, plus the one on channel 1 in the XT Rewire plugin.now it makes sense. Hmmm.the more I think about it, I might do quite well with Reason + SAC in live use.īest regards,I just realized (after reading further about XT Rewire that each instrument is on its own MIDI channel. For me, that's totally fine, since I get to do all my sequencing in MWS, using Reason as another sound source.which is what I've always wanted to do. So.the only way to get audio out of Reason in SS or SAC is via MIDI (via controller or MWS). You'd need enough "preroll" to allow yourself time to start recording in SS. As soon as the engine is live, Reason starts playing back (at its own tempo).and keeps playing "forever" until the engine is stopped. Yet, even if Reason's playback did produce audio, it still would run wild.no sync with SS or SAC. In fact, there was no meter activity (nor audio) in Reason, except when I or MWS played via MIDI. OTOH, as Micro mentioned previously, Reason will not playback any of its own tracks/clips in SS or SAC.no audio is piped through. Reason/Rewire is not a resource hog, either.the system appears very stable. Also, MidiWorkShop works fine with Reason.I can playback a maximum of two sounds simulataneously. I can play (and record) a maximum of two Reason sounds simultaneously from my MIDI keyboard (via a MidiSport8 interface ). Reason will work (within XT Rewire) in SAWStudio and/or SAC.but only as a "soft synth" (or "VSTi"). I sort of expected this, even as I typed above, since Reason must be run externally prior to being Rewired to ACID.this can't happen while SAC (and SACLinked SS) has control of the ASIO devices.

However, I was unable to Rewire Reason to ACID Pro while "XT Rewired" to SAC or SS. This will be a plus should I need a plugin that's available in ACID but not in SAC or SS. Also, I can load and play soft synths in ACID Pro the audio is piped into SAC or SS.

Although nothing will playback from ACID's timeline (same as in Reason), I am, in fact, able to audition loops and samples.a big plus, since I no longer have to exit SAC or SS to do this. UPDATE: I was able to "XT Rewire" ACID Pro to SAC and SS successfully. What does Propellerhead know? I mean, hey, they only wrote the app.they never tried it the way I did.

Then, if I get that to work, I'll try accessing Reason Rewired to ACID Pro.in SAC and SS! Next, I'll try "XT Rewiring" ACID Pro to SAC and SS. I guess XT Rewire functions as the "host" (Reason being the slave application) within SAC or SS. Well.be that as it may.I might as well consider myself blessed, since Reason does what I need right in SAC and SAWStudio, thanks to Energy XT Rewire.
